Everyone has fears, often rooted in early-life experiences or perfectionism. These fears can appear in many forms, like public speaking, failing a business goal, or fear of change. At times, these fears may stop us in our tracks, frozen, unable to move forward. Facing these fears is challenging AND empowering. A good coach can help you overcome these obstacles and PROPEL you forward.
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." – Winston Churchill
Some Steps to Help Overcome Fear:
Acknowledge the Fear: Identify what you're afraid of.
Analyze the Fear: Consider the worst-case scenario and assess its likelihood.
Engage Your Village: Seek support from others who can validate your actions or challenge your assumptions. Get perspective beyond your own thinking.
Take Action: Take immediate steps toward your goal, even if only small steps, followed by subsequent actions. Action is the antidote to anxiety.
Face the Fear: Establish routines that you can deploy in-the-moment to manage fear-related anxiety, such as mindfulness, deep breathing or taking a short walk.
Adapt: Reflect on your progress and adjust as needed. As my former CEO said: Go. Learn. Iterate. Overcoming fear is a practice, and failure is a chance to learn and grow.
If fear or imposter syndrome is holding you or someone on your team back, know that here is a way forward. Hitting fears head on before they become debilitating can enable a much greater chance of success and contribution. Coaching can provide a structured approach. Reach out if you need support.
